Dessa’s new project- Castor, The Twin can now be pre-ordered (releases October 4).
Castor, The Twin is an 11-song project that was recorded entirely with live players for a somber, elegant, and organic effect. Ten of the songs have been previously released on other Doomtree projects; the eleventh is the chilling and beautiful advance single from Dessa’s next full-length, due 2012. On Castor, The Twin, original Doomtree production from Paper Tiger, Lazerbeak, Marshall Larada, and Cecil Otter is reinterpreted on vibraphone, grand piano, viola, mandolin, stand-up bass, and timpani. The album was conceived during Dessa’s Into The Spin Tour—the first tour she’d done with her live trio (Sean McPherson, Dustin Kiel, and Joey Van Phillips). Audiences responded so well to their inventive re-arrangements, and the nuance of their performances, that the new treatments seemed to warrant capturing.
